As part of last year’s Odwira Festival celebrations, we organized a boxing night which saw thousands of people, both indigenes and visitors trooping in to witness the unforgettable bout. Some of the Nation’s best fighters and most renowned referees in the boxing fraternity graced the occasion to exhibit their boxing prowess and dominance over their opponents. Some notable names were referee/judge Roger Barnor, Joshua Clottey, George Ashie and Prince Djanie, just to name a few.
On Sunday September 22, 2019, former IBF Welterweight Titleist, Joshua “The Hitter” Clottey proved his superiority over his Tanzanian opponent, Aziz Mponda, as he was declared victorious in the ninth round. Ahead of the bout, Joshua the Hitter Clottey assured his fans that despite his age, he is sure to knock out his opponent. He said, “I am 41, going to 42 years and I urge you to come and see what the 42-year-old will do to the 25-year-old.
This win by Joshua Clottey marks his second since making a return to the ring after being away for almost two years. His record now stands at 41-5 (24 KOs).
